ACT Science: What Students Need to Know
The official ACT Science section explained — it tests reasoning with scientific data, not memorized facts.
ACT Science is one of the ACT's official sections (alongside English, Math, Reading, and the optional Writing test). It presents data through charts, graphs, and short research summaries, and tests scientific reasoning rather than recalled content knowledge from any single subject.
Structure & timing
- 40 questions in 35 minutes, based on 6–7 passages.
- Passages draw on biology, chemistry, physics, and earth/space sciences.
What's tested
- Interpretation of Data — reading tables, graphs, and figures accurately.
- Scientific Investigation — understanding experimental design and procedures.
- Evaluation of Models, Inferences & Experimental Results — comparing viewpoints and drawing conclusions.
